Battery Safety Guidelines

Warning: There are inherent risks associated with the use of rechargeable batteries. Special care must be taken when handling lithium-ion (Li-ion), lithium polymer (LiPo), and other rechargeable batteries. Rechargeable batteries are highly sensitive to charging specifications and may burn, leak, or explode if mishandled, damaged, or used improperly.

Installation

Before installing any Li-ion, LiPo, or other rechargeable battery, confirm that the battery is compatible with your device. Not all devices support the same battery specifications, so it is important to read the technical and safety information provided for both the device and the battery.

Inspect batteries carefully before use. Do not use any battery that shows dents, tears, swelling, leaks, or other signs of damage. If only the external wrap is damaged, have the battery professionally rewrapped before use. If you are unsure about a battery’s condition, seek advice from a qualified technician or specialist retailer.

When installing batteries, ensure the positive and negative terminals are aligned correctly according to the battery compartment markings.

Do not mix old and new batteries or different brands. For multi-battery devices, use only “married” batteries. Married batteries are batteries that were purchased together, used together, and charged together, and are never separated for use in different devices. This helps maintain both safety and performance.

Operation

Use batteries and devices only for their intended purpose. Do not tamper with, modify, disassemble, puncture, or otherwise alter any battery or device. Doing so may result in serious injury, property damage, or death.

When a device is not in use, switch it off where possible. Leaving a device powered on may result in accidental discharge or overheating.

Storage and Maintenance

When batteries are not installed in a device, always store and transport them in a cool, dry, non-conductive container such as a battery case. Never carry loose batteries in a pocket, bag, backpack, purse, or similar location where they may come into contact with metal objects or conductive materials.

Batteries and devices should always be kept in a controlled environment. Do not expose batteries or devices to sharp objects, water, open flames, direct sunlight, or high temperatures above 100°C / 212°F. Never leave batteries in a vehicle, as extreme temperatures can be dangerous.

In the unlikely event that a lithium battery catches fire, do not use water to extinguish it. Use an appropriate fire extinguisher or smothering agent if safe to do so, and contact emergency services if required.

Always comply with all applicable laws and regulations relating to the transport, shipping, storage, recycling, and disposal of batteries. For battery recycling information in Australia, you may visit: https://recyclingnearyou.com.au/batteries/

Keep batteries and devices out of reach of children and pets.
